1000F cell
In August 2007, JSR Corporation launched JM Energy which is dedicated to the development, manufacture and marketing of its Ultimo, Lithium Ion Capacitor (LIC).
A capacitor is an electrical storage device that stores or releases electricity through rapid electrostatic reactions. Compared with a battery that stores electricity through slow chemical reactions, a capacitor makes it possible to charge and discharge electricity almost instantaneously with an extremely long cycle life.

While everyday batteries will stop working after several hundred charge-discharge cycles; Ultimo can be cycled over a million times, without loss of capacity.
Ultimo is also much safer than Lithium Ion Batteries. Since Ultimo doesn't contain any lithium spinel; thermal runaway, an explosion or venting with flame will not occur.
With its superior safety, Ultimo is better suited to fill the energy needs of today's environment-friendly products.

Our lithium ion capacitor, ULTIMO, has 4 times higher energy density and 1.5 times higher voltage (3.8V) than conventional capacitors (up to 2.5V), such as electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) enabling it to store huge amounts of electricity in very compact cells.

Characteristics of ULTIMO
High Energy Density
High Operation Voltage
High Power
Instantaneous Charge and Discharge
Long Energy Preservation (Low Self Discharge Rate)
ULTIMO also has excellent durability under a wide range of operational conditions. It performs well at 70C or higher while the performance deterioration of EDLC is significant under the same conditions.
The self discharge rate of ULTIMO is less than 5% over three months at ambient temperature, while the self discharge rate of conventional EDLCs under the same conditions can be more than 50% in one month.
