WHAT WE’VE DONE:
Below are just some of the many energy-saving and environmental conscience measures that JSR Micro has implemented.
- - Implemented a trash recycling program and recycled more than 1M lbs of waste – resulting in a recycle rate of 96%. Essentially, the only trash JSR sends to landfills is food waste.
- - From 2008 to 2009, JSR had a 29% reduction in the amount of hazardous waste generated, and a 19% reduction in water consumption, per gallon of product manufactured.
- - From 2008 to 2009, JSR also had a 6% reduction in total energy consumption.
- - Almost all hazardous waste is sent for cement kiln energy
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTS:
Hazardous waste reduction
- - Maximize the usage of product filters to reduce waste
- - Reduce wafers used by streamlining QC processes
- - Reduce the volume of solvents used by streamlining production processes
Non-hazardous waste reduction
- - Installation of hand dryers to replace paper towels
- - Thermal pots to keep coffee fresh longer
- - Reduce foam density in packaging materials
- - Remove aluminum and plastic bags from packaging material
- - Designated all wooden pallets for recycling
- - Convert to electronic issuance for internal processes
Water usage reduction
- - Installation of weather-based irrigation control
- - Xeriscape landscaping on campus grounds wherever possible
- - More efficient sprinkler systems
Energy usage reduction
- - Installation of energy-efficient HID lighting in warehouse and packing areas
- - Installation of motion-sensor activated lights
- - Installation of a “Cool Roof” (white) on production and warehouse buildings to reduce the - load on the air conditioning system
- - Turn off unnecessary lights in unoccupied rooms
- - Turn off HVAC at night and on the weekends
- - Improved the insulation of temp-controlled rooms
